Why app-free access converts the first visit
A QR code can open a mobile web menu immediately. The guest does not visit an app store, grant permissions, create an account, or remember a password. That is especially important for tourists, one-time visitors, food-truck customers, and small restaurants without an established loyalty program.
What a custom app can do better
Apps can support persistent login, stored preferences, push notifications, richer loyalty, background behavior, and a branded icon on the customer’s phone. Those benefits matter most when guests order frequently and the restaurant has the product, support, privacy, and marketing capacity to earn repeat use.
Do not confuse no app with no process
The restaurant still needs accurate availability, a monitored order destination, clear acceptance messages, and a payment process. If a WhatsApp handoff is used, the customer must tap Send and staff should confirm the order in the conversation.
Choose by customer frequency and operational depth
Start with a web menu when the main goal is fast access and simple orders. Consider an app when repeat ordering, loyalty, payments, delivery tracking, push messaging, or offline capabilities are proven requirements rather than speculative additions.
