Free QR menu generators: what “free” should actually include

A free QR image is easy to make. The real question is whether the menu URL remains active, whether you can update content without reprinting, and which limits appear after the restaurant has invested time in setup and printed materials.

Separate a QR generator from a menu platform

A generic generator turns a URL into an image. It does not host or update the restaurant menu. A menu platform provides the public page, editing workflow, availability controls, and possibly ordering. Before choosing, identify which layer is free and who controls the destination URL.

  • Static QR codes should continue resolving to the encoded URL.
  • Dynamic redirect services may disable editing or analytics after a trial.
  • A hosted menu may have category, item, view, or location limits.

Read the limits before printing

Check the number of restaurants, categories, products, table codes, monthly views, image uploads, themes, and staff accounts. Also verify whether branding, analytics, ordering, or exports require a paid plan. A transparent capacity limit is safer than a vague free trial that can deactivate the customer path.

Protect portability and daily operations

Keep a copy of menu names, descriptions, prices, and images. Use a stable public URL and verify how cancellation or downgrade affects the live page. During service, the most valuable free features are often simple: fast edits, availability controls, a scannable mobile page, and clear support information.

  • Save the original QR SVG and destination URL.
  • Document who owns the account and login.
  • Test downgrade behavior before committing every table to the code.
